I started RB Knitwear in Summer 2015, after graduating with a First in BA Fashion Design from Batley School of Art in Yorkshire. The knowledge learnt from this, plus a six month internship at sustainable knitwear company, Makepiece, and a three week intensive course at Nottingham Trent University, provided me with the confidence and skills to set up a home studio and start my own business upon relocating to Bristol. I work to commission, sell on Etsy, stock local shops and sell at local markets.
Sustainability is at the core of my creative practice. The yarn I use is carefully chosen from either vintage sources, mill end stock or from British producers with the highest welfare standards. The majority of my items are made from wool – a naturally renewable fibre that is soft yet hard wearing and can even be composted when the garment finally comes to the end of its life cycle.
I use vintage knitting machines to create my garments, which are worked by hand and finished using a linking machine to ensure sturdy seams. They are then hand washed with eco friendly laundry liquid and air dried to ensure a soft finish.
